History of Vaikasi Visakam
Lord Muruga is Lord Shiva’s second son, produced from his third eye in the form of ferocious fire flames. As the intensity of the fire was intolerable even for the gods, the fire’s embers were submerged in the river to cool them off. This mighty river is known as the “Saravana Poigai,” and it dispersed the spark into six separate ones. Each spark then incarnated as an infant, which was reared by the “karthigai Pengal” celestial maidens. Then, Goddess Parvati merged all the children into a single male child, creating Lord Muruga with twelve limbs and six features.
Lord Muruga is described as an extremely attractive, endearing, and divine individual who possesses vast knowledge and understanding. The “Skanda Purana” characterises Lord Muruga as a highly intelligent individual who taught Lord Shiva the meaning of the “Pranava Mantra.” He is courageous and also commands the army of the Devas. Overall, he is a manifestation of charisma, grace, authority, loyalty, and goodness.

Soorapadman, Singamuhan, and Tarakan. As a result of their arduous penance, the Asuras obtained immense favours and boons that made them invincible. Only a special force as powerful as Lord Shiva and born from the Almighty can annihilate the malevolent Asuras, who are considered unconquerable due to the special boon conferred by Lord Shiva as the result of their years of devotion and meditation.
Lord Muruga is the combined power of Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati, as he was created from the third eye of Lord Shiva and then fused with the Goddess. Lord Muruga also receives the formidable “Vel” from his mother as a special weapon. It is an amulet that destroys evil and protects its wearer from life’s challenges. Thus, Lord Muruga not only acquires the power of Lord Shiva, but also invokes the special weapons and abilities of his mother, Goddess Parvati, and becomes an impeccable source of power.
