The background of National Hammock Day

Since the thirteenth century, humans have relished snoozing and resting in hammocks strung between two trees. “Hammock” is derived from the Taino culture Arwakan word for “fishnet” The name is also derived from the Hamack tree, whose bark was historically used to weave hammocks. Even though hammocks are used all over the world, their popularity is arguably at its apex in Latin America and the Caribbean, with some claiming that hammocks represent the’relaxed’ culture of these regions.
