March Madness 2024 Schedule: There is a different system for crowning the U.S. collegiate champion in March Madness than it does for the rest of college sports in the country. The National College Athletic Association (NCAA) Division I universities earn a place in the national rankings throughout the season and advance to the final tournament.
After the regular season, where around 350 universities compete within the 32 NCAA conferences, March Madness is made up of 68 universities – 32 of which are champions of each conference, while the NCAA Selection Committee will decide which 36 schools will be invited on Selection Sunday, which takes place this Sunday, March 17.

After the participants are announced, the bracket is divided into four regions: East, South, West and Midwest. During the first weekend of April, the NCAA college basketball champion will be determined at neutral sites. The winner of each region will advance to the Final Four.
Selection Sunday will determine 32 more teams, but the last four tickets will be distributed in a first-round playoff between eight universities known as the First Four.
March Madness 2024 Schedule
Selection Sunday takes place this Sunday, and the First Four playoffs will be played March 19-20 in Dayton, Ohio, to determine the final NCAA title contenders.
During March Madness 2024, 32 teams advance to the second round after a first round, followed by the Sweet 16, Elite 8, and Final Four, which will take place at State Farm Stadium in Glendale, Arizona, between April 6 and 8.

Boston, Massachusetts (East); Dallas, Texas (South); Detroit, Michigan (Midwest); and Los Angeles, California (West) will host the regional semifinals (Sweet 16) and finals (Elite Eight).
