Amana Stove Not Working: An Amana stove that suddenly stops working can be pretty annoying especially when you are already in the middle of cooking. The good part though is that some issues are kinda easy to spot. Maybe the breaker tripped, the controls are locked, a burner cap is sitting in the wrong place, the burner ports are blocked, or the gas flow is interrupted, all of that can keep an Amana range from working the way it should.
Amana’s latest troubleshooting advice basically says start with the power supply, the controls and the gas supply first. Which one you check depends on whether you have an electric model or a gas model.
Before you troubleshoot anything, turn the controls off and let the cooktop cool down if you need to look at or clean the burners. And if you happen to smell gas, stop using the appliance right away. Don’t use flames, don’t touch electrical switches and follow your local gas-safety instructions rather than continuing with troubleshooting steps.
Why Is My Amana Stove Not Working?

The reason depends on what exactly stopped working. A few common possibilities include:
- The range has lost electrical power
- A circuit breaker has tripped or a fuse has blown
- Control Lock is enabled
- The oven is set to Delay Start
- The gas supply is turned off
- Burner ports are clogged
- A burner cap or base is incorrectly positioned
- The range was recently connected to the gas supply, and there is still air in the line
- The appliance needs a quick power reset
- There may be an internal component problem or some electrical fault
What To Do?
1. Nothing on the Amana Stove Is Working
If the display, oven and cooktop all appear dead, start with the power supply.
Check the power connection
Make sure the range is plugged into a properly grounded, operational outlet. Amana specifically recommends checking the outlet, power cord and household electrical supply when the entire range is not working.
Next, check the household circuit breaker.
If the breaker has tripped:
1. Turn the range controls off.
2. Reset the right breaker.
3. Wait for a while
Then, check if the range is back to normal operation, or at least acting normal again. If the breaker trips again, don’t keep resetting it again and again. If it keeps happening, that can mean there’s an electrical issue and it really needs professional attention.
Check Control Lock
Some Amana ranges come with a Control Lock feature, which can kind of block the controls from working the way you expect. Look up your exact model’s Use and Care Guide for the correct unlock steps.
Try a power reset
If the range stopped working after a power interruption, restoring the electrical supply might help.
For some Amana electric ranges, the manufacturer says to switch the range’s circuit breaker off for about one minute, then switch it back on and check the appliance again. This is especially important if an F9 or F9 E0 error showed up after a power outage.
2. Amana Gas Burners Are Not Lighting
If the cooktop has power but none of the gas burners light, check both the electrical ignition system and the gas supply.
Check the circuit breaker
Even a gas range needs electricity for its electronic ignition system. Amana notes that proper operation of surface-burner and oven igniters depends on an appropriate electrical connection.
Check the main gas valve
Make sure the main gas supply valve is turned on. If the range was recently installed or disconnected and reconnected to the gas supply, Amana says air may have become trapped in the gas line. In that situation, the surface burners may need to be operated according to the manufacturer’s instructions to release the trapped air.
3. Only One or Two Burners Are Not Working
When some burners work but another does not, the problem may be local to that burner.
Check the burner cap and base
Remove the burner cap and inspect how the burner base is positioned. The cap should sit correctly and securely on the base.
An incorrectly positioned cap can interfere with proper ignition and flame formation.
Clean clogged burner ports
Food spills and residue can block the small gas openings around the burner.
With the cooktop completely cool and all controls turned off:
- Remove the burner cap and base where your model permits.
- Clean the gas-tube opening beneath the burner base with a damp cloth.
- Clean clogged burner ports using a straight pin, needle or small-gauge wire, following Amana’s instructions.
- Do not use a wooden toothpick, which can break and obstruct the opening.
- Do not use oven cleaner, bleach or rust remover on the burner components.
4. Amana Burner Clicks but Does Not Light

A clicking sound generally indicates that the electronic ignition is attempting to ignite the burner.
If it keeps clicking without producing a flame, check:
1. Whether the burner ports are clogged.
2. Whether the burner cap and base are correctly positioned.
3. Whether the main gas valve is open.
4. Whether the burner is wet.
5. Whether the range was recently connected to the gas supply.
Amana notes that a wet burner can cause popping or ignition problems, so allow the components to dry completely before trying again.
5. Amana Gas Stove Has a Weak, Yellow or Uneven Flame
An abnormal flame can have several causes.
Check whether:
- Burner ports are clogged.
- The burner cap is positioned correctly.
- The burner base is correctly installed.
- The burner is wet.
- The range is connected to the correct gas supply.
Amana says that incorrect gas pressure or an improper LP-gas conversion can also cause flame problems and should be handled by a qualified professional. Do not attempt to adjust the gas pressure or convert the appliance yourself.

6. Amana Electric Stove Burner Is Not Heating

For a smooth-top range, or that electric coil situation, start by checking if the range even has power.
Then do this:
- Verify the heating element is in the right place and installed correctly.
- See if Control Lock is currently active.
- Check the circuit breaker and if there are fuses, check those too.
- If it makes sense, reset the range’s power.
Amana says, specifically, to look at the breaker and fuses, and to make sure those electric coil elements are installed correctly.
7. Amana Oven Is Not Working but the Cooktop Works
This is a common situation and doesn’t necessarily mean the entire range has failed. On some Amana models, the display can show PUSH/PSH when Start has not been pressed within the required time.
Check the oven door
Depending on the model and cooking function, the oven may not operate as expected if the door isn’t properly closed. Amana specifically lists the oven door position among the checks for gas and dual-fuel ranges.
8. Amana Gas Oven Is Not Heating
If the cooktop works but the gas oven doesn’t heat, check:
- The power cord and electrical supply.
- The main gas valve.
- Whether the range was recently connected to the gas supply.
- Whether the oven door is properly closed.
- Whether the oven controls have been set correctly.
After a new gas connection, air in the gas line can delay ignition. Amana also notes that the oven burner can take some time to ignite; one Amana installation guide specifies that a 20–40 second delay can be normal while the oven valve opens and gas reaches the burner.
9. Amana Electric Oven Is Not Heating
For an electric oven, Amana recommends checking several settings and electrical conditions:
- Was the appliance recently installed or electrically reconnected?
- Was there a recent power outage?
- Is Control Lock active?
- Is the oven in Demo Mode?
- Is Delay Start activated?
- Has a circuit breaker tripped or fuse blown?
These checks are particularly useful when the cooktop appears normal but the oven won’t start.
10. Amana Stove Shows an Error Code
Don’t ignore an error code, but don’t immediately assume the appliance needs replacement either.
For example, Amana says an F9 or F9 E0 code can appear following certain power interruptions. A power reset may resolve it, but if the code continues to return, Amana advises checking the electrical supply and contacting a qualified professional if necessary.
What If the Amana Stove Still Doesn’t Work?
If you’ve checked the power supply, gas supply, controls and burner components and the appliance still doesn’t work, it may have an internal fault.
At this stage, avoid opening the appliance or attempting electrical or gas repairs yourself. Amana’s troubleshooting guidance recommends professional repair when basic troubleshooting does not resolve the issue.
If the range is more than about 10 years old, Amana also suggests considering whether repair or replacement makes more sense based on the appliance’s condition and age.
