Her mother, Andrea Rye, is a former college administrator, whereas her father, Eddie Rye Jr., is an entrepreneur and community activist. Her tertiary education was at a Seattle all-girls secondary school prior to her enrollment at Washington University. She subsequently graduated from Seattle University School of Law with a Juris Doctor degree. Since his college years, Rye has been actively engaged in social activism.
