Respected teachers and my colleagues…
Today, on the occasion of Gandhi Jayanti, we all have gathered here. The Father of the Nation Mahatma Gandhi was born on 2 October 1869 in Porbandar, Gujarat. Our country pays tribute to him by celebrating his birthday as a national festival. People affectionately called him Bapu. Gandhiji is known for his non-violent ways of fighting for the independence of the country. Gandhi Jayanti is celebrated worldwide as the International Day of Non-Violence.
Gandhi completed his early studies in British-ruled India and then went on to study law in England. After practicing law in South Africa, he returned to India in 1915 and became a part of the Indian freedom struggle. He gave tremendous life to the freedom movement with his excellent leadership ability. He led important movements like Champaran Satyagraha, Non-Cooperation Movement, Dandi March and Quit India Movement.
Gandhiji opposed alcohol. Gandhiji wanted that no one should be discriminated on the basis of religion and caste in the society. Treat everyone equally. Have respect for women. Everyone should get justice. Gandhiji constantly raised his voice against the evils like untouchability prevalent in the Indian society. He made his valuable contribution for the upliftment of Harijans. He himself started living in Harijan Basti. He made a lot of efforts to give equal status to the Harijans in the society. Gandhiji taught Indians to love indigenous goods. Holi of foreign clothes was lit. As a result, indigenous industries got a boost.
Although programs are organized across the country to remember Bapu on Gandhi Jayanti, but the main program is held at Raj Ghat in Delhi. Rajghat is the tomb of Gandhiji. On Gandhi Jayanti, the President, Vice President, Prime Minister and other leaders of the country come to Raj Ghat to pay homage at the Samadhi of Bapu. Ram Dhun and Gandhiji’s favorite hymns are sung in the prayer meeting. The program of offering homage and singing of hymns also takes place at Birla House in Delhi where Gandhi was assassinated.
For Gandhi, there was no service greater than charity and there was no greater religion than humanity. Bapu, who followed the path of non-violence and truth throughout life, not only taught humanity the lesson of humanity but also taught the right way to live life. Friends today is the day to take a pledge to follow the path shown by Gandhi. Now I would like to end my speech. Thank you so much for giving me a chance to share my thoughts.
Jai Hind. Jai Bharat. Long live Mother India.
