Choral Day 2023: Every year on the second Sunday in December, Choral Day is observed; this year, it falls on December 12. Similar to other creative arts, music unites people. Music is a comfort to us and a common way that we communicate our feelings.
Our constant companion, music, has been there for us through good times and bad. The wonderful gift of music, especially choral music, is celebrated on Choral Day. Church music that is upbeat and energetic comes to mind when we think of choirs. Singing along with the choir is one of the highlights of going to church for a lot of us!
The Choral Day History
Alberto Grau first organized Choral Day celebrations in Helsinki in 1990. Grau is a Venezuelan composer, educator, and choral conductor. In addition, he founded the Venezuelan choral group “Schola Cantorum de Caracas,” which has gained some notoriety among music aficionados. Grau and his team have collaborated on projects that have served as the foundation for multiple musical art development initiatives. Among other initiatives, Grau has led the Schola Cantorum Foundation of Caracas and the Foundation Coral Cantemos.
Almost 26 years later, choir groups from all over the world participate in Choral Day, which has grown to be an international event. The purpose of the day is to honor the harmony and serenity that music brings to people. Choral Day is also celebrated in historically conflicted areas in the hopes that people will find solace and benefit from the lessons of music in these areas.
This day serves as a reminder that music fosters human connections in a variety of ways. It’s not unusual for people with similar musical tastes to become friends. Various musical concerts are held to commemorate the day, offering opportunities for adults and kids to enjoy and discover new music. The majority of us value musical ability, and it’s a really lovely way to express our emotions. In addition to uniting people, music can demonstrate the advantages of living in harmony for all of us. Using music for harmony and peace is the goal of this day.
