Utpanna Ekadashi 2023: Ekadashi (Utpanna Ekadashi) is thought to be a fasting technique that helps cleanse the body and calm the mind. For individuals who adhere to rituals and practise fervent worship, Ekadashi is a significant holiday in India. Typically, the fast lasts from sunrise on the day of Ekadashi to the following day. The moon’s position affects when Ekadashi occurs. India’s lunar calendar counts down from a full moon to a new moon, which has fifteen equal crescents. Every crescent has its own Tithi. Tithi is the length of time it takes the Moon to travel across a specific portion of a lunar day. Ekadashi occurs on the eleventh day. On Ekadashi, on the bright side of the lunar month, the moon is visible around 75% of the time; on the dark side, this would be the opposite.
A calendar year has twenty-four Ekadashi in total. In the leap year, there are two additional Ekadashis. Sometimes Utpanna Ekadashi is referred to as Utpati Ekadashi. During Krishna Paksha, it occurs on the eleventh day of the month of Margashirsha.

Vrat Katha
The story of Utpanna Ekadashi tells of Maa Ekadashi’s birth and her role in saving Lord Vishnu from a demon. There was a demon called Mura in Satyuga. By vanquishing Lord Indra and his gems, he took control of heaven. Following this, every god turned to Lord Shiva for assistance. Lord Shiva advised him to go to Lord Vishnu and ask for his assistance. After learning everything from the gods, Lord Vishnu made the decision to overthrow Murasura’s evil reign. It was then that Lord Vishnu and Murasura went to war. Ten years passed during this war. Only Murasura remained alive after the other demons were all slain. On the battlefield, Murasura could neither be killed nor defeated.
Legend
Lord Vishnu left for Badrikashram, worn out from the conflict. Hemvati is the name of the cave where he slept in yoganidra. The demon attacked Vishnu upon arriving at Hemvati. At that moment, Lord Vishnu’s body gave birth to a fortunate woman with a positive aura. He murdered Murasura after challenging him to a duel. Lord Vishnu was pleasantly surprised to discover Murasura dead when he emerged from his meditation. Lord Vishnu was pleased with this and bestowed upon her the name Utpanna Ekadashi, declaring that people will revere her.
Hindu astrology accords tremendous significance to Utpanna Ekadashi. It is thought that people who observe the fast with good intentions and a pure mind are cleansed of their previous transgressions. Furthermore, it is also thought that those who wish to fast on Ekadashi should begin on Utpanna Ekadashi. Maa Ekadashi, who is defined in reference to Lord Vishnu, assisted Lord Vishnu in defeating Murasur on this day. On the same day, it is customary to honour Maa Ekadashi and Lord Vishnu and fast. All of your sins, past and present, will be washed away if you observe the rites of this Ekadashi. You’ll get nearer to redemption.
