SSDI Payment Schedule September 2026: Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI) payments in September 2026 won’t arrive on the same day for everyone. Your payment date depends on when you started getting Social Security and, for most people, the birthday on the record used for the benefits.

The official Social Security Administration (SSA) calendar lists September 3, September 9, September 16 and September 23, 2026 as the main Social Security payment dates for the month.

When Will SSDI be Paid in September 2026?

People who started getting Social Security before May 1997 generally get their payment on the 3rd of the month. In September 2026, that date falls on Thursday, September 3.

People who receive both Social Security and SSI also have a Social Security payment on September 3. Their separate SSI payment is scheduled for Tuesday, September 1. For most other SSDI recipients, the payment is based on the beneficiary’s date of birth. The September 2026 schedule is:

  • Born from the 1st through 10th: Wednesday, September 9
  • Born from the 11th through 20th: Wednesday, September 16
  • Born from the 21st through 31st: Wednesday, September 23

The SSA uses this same three-Wednesday system for most people who filed for benefits on or after May 1, 1997.

How Does the SSDI Payment Schedule Work?

The payment date isn’t picked randomly. SSA generally uses the birth date of the person whose work record the benefits are based on. The second Wednesday is for birthdays from the 1st to 10th, the third Wednesday is for the 11th to 20th and the fourth Wednesday is for the 21st to 31st.

There are some exceptions to this schedule. People who started receiving benefits before May 1997 and some beneficiaries who also get SSI can have their payments on the 3rd of the month.

The SSA also says beneficiaries shouldn’t assume there’s a problem right away if their money isn’t showing on the expected date. Its payment guidance says to “allow three additional mailing days before contacting Social Security” when a payment hasn’t arrived.
