Tom DeLonge Biography:
Early Life
On December 13, 1975, Tom DeLonge was born in Poway, California. His mother worked as a mortgage broker, and his father was an executive for an oil company. He was raised in the middle-class Poway suburbs, where he was early drawn to punk music and skateboarding. He picked up the guitar and became enamored with it while attending church camp. Due to his parents’ chaotic relationship, which resulted in frequent arguments at home, DeLonge turned to music as a way to cope.
Career
He was expelled from his junior year of high school for attending a basketball game while intoxicated. Due to this, he was compelled to attend Rancho Bernardo High School, where he met Scott Raynor, Mark Hoppus, Anne Hoppus’s brother, and other people. The trio of boys went on to form Blink-182, releasing their debut single in 1993. The group generated enough interest by 1996 for MCA Records to extend a contract offer. With his group’s massively successful 1999 album “Enema of the State,” DeLonge achieved mainstream success. DeLonge and Blink-182 were instrumental in shaping pop-punk music for the majority of the 1990s and 2000s.
After departing from Blink-182, DeLonge founded Angels and Airwaves in 2005. They released “We Don’t Need To Whisper,” their debut studio album, in 2006, and “I-Empire,” their second album, in 2007. After drummer Travis Barker survived an airline crash one year later, DeLonge rejoined a reformed Blink-182. Weezer and Fall Out Boy provided support for the band’s reunion tour, which was so popular that it sold out arenas all over the country. DeLonge made the announcement in January 2015 that he was leaving Blink-182 to concentrate on solo albums and novels, among other endeavors.
