Golden Globe Awards 2024: One of the main Hollywood awards for the entertainment business is the Golden Globe Awards, which are given out in January to honor excellence in American and foreign cinema and television. It is held on January 7 this year. Since 1944, actors, directors, cast members, and crew members have competed for this golden trophy and the associated prestige, even though these honors have recently faced significant challenges.

Golden Globe Awards History

To encourage the release of movies in markets outside of the United States, a group of international journalists based in Los Angeles established the Golden Globes. They were responsible for founding the Hollywood Foreign Correspondents Association in 1943. By that time, the Academy Awards had become well-known, and the group saw the need to hold an equivalent ceremony to recognize the achievements made by both American and foreign filmmakers.

The first Golden Globe Awards were hosted at the 20th Century Fox studios in January 1944, and there were no prizes given out—only scrolls. The following year, Marina Cisternas, the organization’s president, came up with the idea for the current trophy, which has a film strip encircling a golden globe. The group broke up after six years, then got back together five years later to form the Hollywood Foreign Press Association (HFPA).

By 1963, the Golden Globes included somebody other than the host or presenter to personally present the prizes. These women, who were first introduced as “Miss Golden Globe” before being renamed “Golden Globe Ambassador,” were frequently the daughters—and occasionally the sons—of well-known people. The awards have been televised live across all US time zones and in 167 countries worldwide over the years.

Even if voter fraud, claims of awards-for-attendance, and other issues have cast doubt on the legitimacy of these awards, the current generation’s love of all things entertainment has elevated the Golden Globe’s stature to even greater heights. This ceremony has continuously been one of the most watched events on television, based on TV ratings.

Following fresh legal challenges to the HFPA, they decided not to webcast the 2022 Oscars live, instead revealing the Golden Globe winners on their social media.
