Nagaland State Inauguration Day 2023: Nagaland’s State Inauguration Day is held every year on December 1. Today is the official start of the 14 tribes coming together as one political body. The Naga people have been fighting for a long time to get rid of British rule. They were successful when they asked for a separate country, and India gave them one under the State of Nagaland Act. Nagaland’s State Inauguration Day came after a time of fighting and political unrest in the state between the Naga people and the Indian government. The British government first tried to bring the different groups together into a single territory. But these only had a small effect because most villages were still not under government rule.

A Brief History of State Inauguration Day in Nagaland

The area became part of the Nagaland Transitional Provisions Regulation in 1961. According to the tribes’ practices, customs, and ways of doing things, this law established an interim body with 45 members. When Parliament passed the State of Nagaland Act, Nagaland became a state.

The Temporary Government of Nagaland was disbanded on November 30, 1963. On December 1, 1963, Nagaland became a full state. The name of the main city was Kohima. The first Nagaland Legislative Assembly that was freely elected was set up on February 11, 1964, after elections in January 1964. In many parts of Burma and India, the Naga rebels kept up their operations. There were calls for ceasefires and more talks, but the fighting did not stop. When direct rule was put in place in March 1975, some leaders of the biggest rebellion groups decided to give up their weapons and accept the constitution. However, a small group of leaders did not agree and kept up their insurgent work.

Peace measures started by the Nagaland Baptist Church Council in the 1960s were very important. They helped end decades of violence and took a concrete, positive form in early 1964. The Nagaland Peace Council set it up in 1972. The government has tried to stop the violence, but it hasn’t been completely successful. In 2012, the leaders of the state asked India’s central government to help them solve their problems through politics.
