National Deborah Day 2023: On December 18, people commemorate National Deborah Day. Deborah is an ancient Israelite given name for women. Between the 1950s and the 1970s, it saw a sharp increase in popularity in the United States thanks to the widespread use of the name by actresses like Deborah Kerr and Debbie Reynolds. In the 1990s, it was the twenty-fifth most popular name for women in the United States. It is occasionally used as a biblical surname. Deborah is still relevant after decades; over 1.2 million Americans today bear this name.

The National Deborah Day History

A prophetess named Deborah appears in the Old Testament book of “Judges.” Her name, D’Vorah (meaning “bee”), is derived from Hebrew. She lived from 1107 to 1067 B.C. She could be considered one of the first feminist icons of her era because she was one of the few female judges in Israel and the only female judge mentioned in the Bible.

Deborah was motivated to live a virtuous life and defend Israel from harm by her visions of God. The tribes of Israel were inspired to fight against the Canaanites who were oppressing them by her prophecies and judgments. The Bible’s final mention of Deborah says that after her deeds, Israel enjoyed forty years of peace.

Born in the United States on July 1, 1945, Debbie Harry is one of the two original members of the punk band “Blondie.” Her name is Angela Tremble. When she was three months old, Catherine and Richard Harry adopted her and raised her in New Jersey. Harry moved to New York in the late 1960s after leaving college, where he worked as a “Playboy Bunny” and sang with the band “Wind in the Willows.” She met Chris Stein, a guitarist who eventually joined the group when she was singing with the female trio Stilettos. The two started their band in 1974, and their first album, “Blondie,” was released in 1976. Following the release of their sixth studio album, the group broke up in 1982. However, they got back together in 1997 and are still performing today.
