National Christmas Lights Day 2023: It’s time to decorate for Christmas, folks, because December 1 is National Christmas Lights Day! Before electric lights came along, people would balance candles on the branches of their Christmas trees. This was a dangerous habit that caused a number of house fires. Thomas Edison was the first person to make electric Christmas lights in 1880. He then strung them all over the outside of his Menlo Park lab.
People didn’t trust electricity at first, though, so it took a few more decades for the idea to become popular. People from all walks of life didn’t really like electric lights until 1903, when General Electric started selling Christmas light kits that were already put together. In modern times, electric lights are an important part of the winter holiday season, not just Christmas. Before the end of the year, let’s hang up our lights and have a party. It is, after all, the season.
Things To Do On National Christmas Lights Day
Walk through the Christmas lights.
Wrap up in your winter coat and take a walk around your neighborhood to enjoy the lights. Maybe you could go to a place in your town that is known for having big light shows and see them for yourself. You can enjoy the winter, stay in touch with your neighbors, and get some exercise at the same time.
Talk to your friends about it.
You can work together on a design with your friends if you want to make a big deal out of something. This is a fun way to be creative and have a good time with your friends, whether it’s a repeated motif or a long scene. You might also go popular because someone with a smartphone saw you and shared it.
Make music play while you light up.
It was popular to do this a few years ago, but we still think it’s a great Christmas project. You can set your lights to flash to the beat of your favorite song if you know how or know someone who does.

Why We Love December 25
They look lovely.
Something about the way Christmas lights shine on a cold winter night makes you think of magic. There’s no time difference between this and your youth, when magic was real and life wasn’t so hard. It doesn’t matter if Christmas lights are shining on snow or from the base of a palm tree; they are beautiful in their own way.
They help you stay warm.
This is true for anyone who has burned their hand on a bulb that has been on for too long. Of course, a real log fire or even a heater might be better for keeping warm, but if you don’t have either, just curl up next to a string of Christmas lights and get cozy. (Don’t touch them, please).
They are fun for the whole family to put together.
In the months before Christmas, the Christmas lights will always get twisted up at some point. They will always be twisted when you bring them out again, no matter how carefully you put them away the year before. You don’t have to be sad and angry about it. Get your family together and make the Great Untangling into a game! Improve your hand-eye balance and your ability to think strategically as you get ready to “step into Christmas.”
